| HISTORY
For
roughly four decades, the historic
Old Schoolhouse on Main Street in Cambria had been the home of the
Allied Arts Association, an organization intended to bring together all
of the arts, visual as well as theatrical. It served as the venue for
both the Association's gallery and theater.
But with
the construction of Cambria's
new grammar school, much of the Old Grammar School was vacated,
including its large multi-use auditorium and a few classrooms. In
November of 2006, Allied Arts entered into a joint use agreement with
the Coast Union School District so that the theater wing of Allied Arts
could hold its performances in the auditorium. After considerable
investments in a new curtain for the stage, seating, construction of a
technical booth and other improvements, Allied Arts has sponsored a
variety of successful theatrical productions there.

THEATER
AVAILABILITY
Allied Arts Association operates the Theatre at the Old Grammar School
which is available for use by a variety of performance and theater
groups. The theater contains seating for approximately 100. A rear
technical booth and two rooms accessible from backstage are available.
For self-contained production
companies, Allied Arts can supply local publicity and an on-site
theater manager. For non-profit theater companies needing rehearsal
time, Allied Arts participates in budget development, provides theater
management, local publicity and may supply some portion of the funding
required in advance of the performances. Allied Arts manages the sale
of tickets for all events. The proportion of net profits retained by
Allied Arts varies, depending on the type of production company and the
level of ancillary support required. All engagements require
board-approved, written contracts in advance of equipment delivery,
rehearsals or performances.
Inquiries are accepted by e-mail
only: Jeff Mar
Please include tentative performance dates and
days needed for set-up and/or rehearsal. Responses to inquiries by
telephone are not possible.
The theater may also be rented
directly through the Coast Unified School District. The District's fee
schedule may be viewed online at
www.coastusd.org/index.php/district/forms, then click on Theatre at the
Old Grammar School Fee Schedule.
